Similar to the low-fiber diet, low residue diets are important for patients who need less bulk in their stools. A low residue diet also cuts out foods that increase bowel activity - like milk products. This may be helpful for those with IBD disorders, or those recovering from colon surgery or radiation. The low residue foods lengthen the amount of time foods are traveling through the digestive tract.
